In a bid to make sure mental health is taken seriously and respected as much as possible within drum & bass, and the wider creative communities, longstanding Slovakian artist Dephzac, respected streetwear brand Dnbwear and burgeoning community-focused platform Arts Wellness Collective have launched a new collaboration.
It starts this Friday, April 12, with brand new track Insanity. The track was inspired directly by the challenges Dephzac had seen his peers, colleagues and loved ones who suffer mental health challenges go through.
“During the process in the studio, I thought about other producers who don’t have this opportunity to sit and create music that we enjoy so much,” Dephzac tells us. “Each one of us has someone who suffers from mental health issues and we are here to listen and help.”
Not just a single release, Insanity marks the start of a series of projects between the platforms that will all highlight the topic of mental health, the importance of supporting each other and how we can do that. To do this Dephzac has coordinated with D&B streetwear brand Dnbwear and Arts Wellness Collective, a London initiative created by journalist Layla Marino which works to integrate wellness and mental heath awareness into the music scene.
Dnbwear have also been instrumental in championing mental health awareness and currently run two designs from Arts Wellness Collective as part of their Artist Art series: A Crystal Skull design by renowned producer, artist and tattoo artist Maztek and a piece called The Metamorphosis of Mind and Soul by Hungarian artists Trinyó, the main designers for Eatbrain. They plan to feature Insanity in their upcoming YouTube and web series in collaboration with DnBPortal.
