Physics reimagines RinneRadio’s 2012 cult ballad – Tule!

Destination: Finland

Now time for something completely different, beautiful, soothing and totally otherworldly. Please put aside four minutes of your hectic life and submerse yourself into this clarinet-led, deep rolling oddyssey courtesy of RinneRadio and Physics…

What a beauty. And the story behind it is just as endearing.

RinneRadio are certified pioneers. An ever-mutating and evolving cast joining founder and main composer Tapani Rinne, the band are a future-facing troupe who burst into life in mid-to-late 80s in Finland. Famously fusing jazz with electronics and early dance music elements – long before any notions of ‘nu jazz’ were thrown around – their sound was way ahead of its time and a major influence across all genres they touch upon. Especially in their native Finland.

Since the band’s debut release in 1988, RinneRadio have existed on the cutting edge, never sitting still and always pushing the boundaries and incorporating new sounds and tech. Tule! is a great example of this. Originally released as a clarinet-only ballad on their 2012 album StaRRk, the track developed a life of its own in their live shows as it was given a big anthemic drum & bass twist by renowned Finnish dnb headliner Muffler who was a member of RinneRadio at the time.

“Originally, it was released exclusively on YouTube and SoundCloud,” explains Tapani. “But over the years, the version gained so much popularity that we decided to finally give it an official release.”

That official release lands on August 15 via Rockadillo Records and with it comes a plethora of Finnish talents: joining Muffler’s remix are reboots from Physics, Resound, Mihut, Out Of Fuel and AIM Don’t Come. Each act taking Tapani’s stunning clarinet line into new orbits and universes. For Midnight Sun bossman Physics, it’s something of a full circle moment as RinneRadio played such a strong influence on his sound.

“I grew up in the late 90s, early 2000s so RinneRadio’s sound, and especially the ”B” album, was very influential for my early sound,” he explains. “I think the RinneRadio sound is something many in my age group knows and has very deeply rooted memories of.”

“Getting a chance to remix Tule! was something I jumped straight on, as I am a big fan. Mind you, I’m quite selective with my remixes, hence why I haven’t done that many… It must be a track or sound I’m feeling and especially Tapani’s clarinets on this one spoke to me. It’s that sound you immediately know it’s RinneRadio.”
It’s a sound you immediately need to explore, too…
