In this interview, Skrimor lays down his delight at working with Evolution Chamber and talks about the creative process behind his latest release. The self-confessed studio junkie also beams over receiving praise from his peers and explains his sound.

Boogie Woogie/Club Girl is out now, so strap yourselves in tight and read on below to find out more about the man himself as he teases more releases with Evolution Chamber. Skrimor’s rise has been magnificent and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon…

How does it feel to do your first solo release with Evolution Chamber?

It’s like your best dreams are coming true, I can’t wait to make another one honestly.

Can you tell us about your relationship with Evolution Chamber?

It seemed that we had a lot of common friends and some of them told me before that I should try to release something there. One day James reached me out on Instagram, and our friendship began. For me it’s such an honour to be a part of this team, and I really like to work with these guys, I think we understand each other. At the moment, the label allows me to do everything that I want, from music to cover designs and for me it is so inspiring. So I would say I am in love.

Can you tell us what inspired your creativity for Boogie Woogie and Club Girl?

Boogie Woogie came from my childhood, we’ve got this stupid and sticky song in the kindergarten. I thought it would be a cool phrase to put into the tune. I wanted to make it playful and weird in a way. Club Girl was an inspired by golden era of RAM records, it is just a quintessence of the best drum & bass I’ve listened to.

Your rise as an artist has been incredible since your first release, how does that feel?

The real regard for me is when my idols give feedback to me, I think the most mind blowing moment was when A.M.C messaged me on Instagram directly after my KickBack release, my dopamine level raised like hell there, I could fly for real. For me the most important thing is that somebody really cares about what I do, and it gives me power and motivation to move on.

How would you describe your sound as a producer?

I am a studio junkie, who is spending almost my whole free time in the home studio developing new ideas, learning the references, and trying to find my own way on this lifelong journey. I think I have a mental conception of how I should sound in my mind and every time I am doing a new tune, I ask myself: Does it sound like Skrimor? Do I like it? I am struggling with the perfectionist inside of me who wants to be clean and perfect. I’ve tried to make a super clean production, but I realised that is a wrong approach for me. Two years ago I started to produce early in the morning, and now I never do it after the sun goes down, maybe it sounds ridiculous but it works for me.

What’s your local Drum & Bass scene like?

I would say that the Czech D&B scene is so much closer for me. In fact, I am feeling at home in Czechia. Let it Roll as a festival made a strong influence on me. I can learn a lot from Czech DJs, and I see a lot of talented young DJs there, it’s so inspiring for me.

What plans do you have for the near future?

Make as many tunes as I can, but obviously good ones.

Will we see more from you on Evolution Chamber?

Of course. The best part is yet to come. Trust me!
