No, we’re not 15 days late on April fools.
Yes, the Fast Soul Music bossman London Elektricity will be releasing a single on one of drum & bass music’s most unapologetically brutalist and future-focused imprints of all time Metalheadz… And this is a very exciting prospect for all D&B heads.
It’s happening pretty much imminently and the full release will comprise two tracks – Life Is But A Dream (which lands on Friday April 25) and All On Top, a collaboration with Conrad Subs and Genesis Elijah which follows two weeks later on May 9.
“In 2022, coming out of that very weird lockdown, I was starting to sketch in the studio,” explains ex-Hospital Records bossman London Lekky AKA Tony Colman. “I made Life Is But A Dream, and I had no idea what to do with it. I knew I was stepping away from my own label Hospital Records, and that was it. I played the track to my agent Chris BluMarTen and he instantly said, ‘Send it to Goldie. That would be a vibe to release on Metalheadz.’ I loved the idea so I did, not expecting for a minute that Goldie would like it. To my surprise, he called straight back and said he liked it and he’d like to release it.”
Three years later, to everyone’s surprise, the tracks are now confirmed for release. And despite both Metalheadz and London Elektricity having extensive discographies that dig deep in all kinds of directions for over 30 years, this feels like a significant moment for the scene. It’s a really authentic release, it’s a wholesome fusion of sounds and a timely reminder that D&B is D&B and not a series of isolated subgenres and labels connected only by tempos and breakbeats.
