1 More Thing Mentorship: 2025

Want to join our team?

The time has come for us expand our crew once again!

Are we looking for YOU?

Following the success of our first ever mentorship programme that launched in August 2023, we are now looking to take on two new members to our content team.

Successful applicants will be immersed in an intense musical world of editorial, content, story telling, research, fact-finding, interviewing, hosting, label work, event work and everything else we do.

With over 25 years of personal and consistent editorial and industry experience to share – and now backed up by an amazing and supportive team, 1 More Thing has even more resources and space to empower and enable two more kindred spirits.

Full details directly below and then more reading material and food for thought below that. Please note that this is a mentorship-based voluntary role that is unpaid.

Role Description:

  • To provide 1-3 news pieces, articles or features to our editorial site per week and be able to commit to either one or two days per week to 1 More Thing work.
  • Attend group calls and contribute ideas.
  • Take part in our podcasts and group content projects.
  • Assist with social media tasks, asset creation and content scheduling.
  • Help promote music releases and other brand activities.

Mentorship Goals:

  • Weekly one-to-one sessions, helping with all aspects of content creation and personal professional development.
  • Support and training in writing, interview techniques, story-finding, industry practice, curation and many other aspects of music journalism and contemporary digital content culture.
  • Access to contacts and peers within our network and community.
  • Feedback on all ideas and contributions.
  • Professional guidance and a personalised plan that complements your own commitments, lifestyle and needs.
  • Guidance on next steps in your career and future work with 1 More Thing.

How to apply:

  • Create a piece of content you feel would complement 1 More Thing’s current output. This could be a news story, article, interview, short video or audio piece.
  • Submit it to yo@1-more-thing.co.uk along with a covering letter on why you should join our team
  • Deadline: Friday October 25

Don’t worry about:

  • Experience or qualifications – vibe can’t be faked, technicals can be taught later.
  • If you’ve never done this before – see above! It’s passion and dedication we’re looking for.
  • Where you are based in the world – preferably you’ll be in a western/EU timezone but if you’re perfect for the job and on the other side of the planet then we’ll work it out!
  • Your age – as long as you’re over 18 then we’re all ears. We are a cross-generational community!
  • Anxiety or mental health – we have complete empathy and understanding of all neurodivergencies. We are very very understanding and respectful and create space for all requirements.

We are looking for:

  • Unapologetic enthusiasm for this music and culture.
  • A deep nerdy knowledge of music or a willingness to develop a deep nerdy knowledge of music.
  • An aptitude for creating content and finding stories.
  • An ability to think on your feet and work with limited resources.
  • People who, like us, can’t imagine doing anything else with their lives. This isn’t a job, it’s a calling and a lifestyle. If that strikes the right chord with you, then hit us up and get involved.
  • Ethical and considerate applicants. We got zero time for egos or bad attitude.
  • Community minded applicants who acknowledge that there’s more to life than money, fame or status.

Additional background information…

When I launched 1 More Thing in June 2022 I had no intention of it ever getting bigger than my own workload and abilities. This platform was born in a place and mindset of absolute independence. But then I quickly realised that all the massive things I want 1 More Thing to do, and the positive impact I want it to have on this scene, can’t happen unless I share my vision and bring people into the team.

This was not a decision I took lightly. I detest exploitation of any type of good will – a culture that is sadly rife across dance music and all creative sectors – but 1 More Thing isn’t quite ready to monetize yet. So I take the role of mentor very seriously and make sure I pass on as much expertise and experience as possible and create as many exciting opportunities for my team. In short, anyone I mentor should feel welcome, comfortable, safe, empowered and in a state of exciting, inspired professional development.

So far, so amazing. With Marc, Annelies and Lauren on side, I am able to explore many more ideas and possibilities and I have headspace and time to consider some of the collab offers and invitations the brand regularly receives. Just over a year later and 1 More Thing is almost unrecognisable in terms of its energy, breadth and activities. We’ve been present at more events, we’ve launched more projects, made more content and released more music and this is totally down to 1 More Thing becomming a full crew with a support network that based on very honest and genuine communication and friendship.

Marc, Annelies and Lauren have all said mindblowing things about being mentored by me, as you can read below, but as with all of these things in life, it’s a very much a two way street and I have the same level of respect and praise for them, too.

I look forward to receiving applications for the two new roles we’ve opened up. Last year’s mentorship announcement caused an overwhelming response. If you applied last year, please apply again. Thanks!
