Time for the deep stuff… 1 More Thing has now launched a new series of extensive, uncut video interviews with some of the most inspiring, creative and talented artists operating in our musical axis.
Unapologetically long watches to get lost in, absorb and be a fly on the wall as we cover any and every topic important to the artist’s heart and inspirations. First up: Ruth Royall.
Few artists have taken drum & bass by storm with quite as much positive energy and universal appeal as Ruth Royall. Since making her D&B debut with Fred V & Grafix, the Bristol-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has flexed across the entire subgere solar system making herself totally home on beats ranging from artists such as jungle pioneer Nookie to dancefloor queen Mollie Collins by way of D*Minds, Ekko & Sidetrack, goddard, Tali and so many more.
With roots in jazz and a heavy schedule as a session musician, her versatility and passion for all forms of flavours of music really shines in all her output from her own productions – which have started to see the light of day this summer with her Light The Fuse single – and also in her DJ sets; Ruth is at the very forefront of the exciting new movement of vocalists such as Riya, A Little Sounds, Degs and Inja who have all taken to the decks and brought their songs to life, live and direct to the dancefloor.
1 More Thing finds out much more about these performances – including some of her earliest sets warming up for major league headliners like Friction and Sub Focus – plus where she’s at in the studio as a producer, her creative process as a writer, how she was actually auditioning to be a back-up singer for Emeli Sande when she started working in drum & bass and how some of her songs have literally changed people’s lives.
