BBC Radio 1 Dance Awards

Chase & Status, Becky Hill, Andy C, and more nominated for BBC Radio 1 Dance Awards 2024

The drum & bass scene is flourishing with lots of nominations

The nominations for the BBC Radio 1 Dance Awards 2024 are in! With nominees covering the entire dance scene, it’s amazing to see how drum & bass is taking up a rather large portion of the list.

Read along and discover all of the nominees from the D&B scene.

BBC Radio 1 Dance announced the Public Vote earlier this week (for which you can vote here until February 16 at 8 PM). Still, on February 13, we discovered the full list of nominees at an event at The Lower Third in Central London. When we arrived, resident DJ Charlie Tee was spinning cosy tunes. Both household names and up-and-coming promoters were there, which made this event a special one to be at. Around 9.30 PM, Danny Howard took the stage.

Right out of the gate, they had great news for us. BBC Radio 1 Dance is going back to Malta on August 17 this year for their Radio 1 Dance Weekend. Secondly, they will expand from BBC Sounds to DAB+, reflecting the dance scene to a broader audience and supporting new UK artists.

Finally, we discovered the 2024 nominations. Chase & Status are up twice for Best Track with ‘Baddadan’ and ‘Disconnect’. They have also been nominated for Best Dance Album Project with their 2 Ruff Vol. 1, alongside Nia Archives and her Sunrise Bang Ur Head Against Tha Wall.

EQ50, Save Our Scene UK, Fred Again.., Girls Don’t Sync, and Michael Bibi are up against each other for the Dance Impact Award. Best Breakthrough Artist might go to Kenya Grace this year. Becky Hill, Issey Cross, and Flowdan are nominated for Best Vocalist.

Want to have a say in who wins an award? The Public Vote is open until February 16, 8 PM, with Tomorrowland, Boomtown, Creamfields North and Parklife nominated for Best Dance Festival. Fabric, Motion, Printworks and The Warehouse Project are on the list of nominees for Best Venue, Andy C Presents Alive 2.0 and Up Ya Archives have been nominated for Best Club Event. Last but not least, Best Record Label might go to DnB Allstars or Hospital Records this year!

The first 2024 award went to Becky Hill, who received the ‘Outstanding Service to Dance Music’ award. She started her career over 10 years ago and blew up with ‘Afterglow’. In the past decade, she has shown us her love for the scene time and time again. In 2023 she once again had a major hit with ‘Disconnect’, a collab with Chase & Status, so it was no surprise that she took home this award.
